CNA: from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint 2019

Chile’s National Accreditation Commission was running on a SharePoint version Microsoft no longer supported. Together with IFX we migrated the platform to SharePoint 2019, and we still support their team today.

The challenge

The Comisión Nacional de Acreditación (CNA) is the autonomous public body that evaluates and accredits the quality of higher education institutions in Chile. Part of its daily work ran on SharePoint 2013, a version Microsoft had stopped supporting, with the security and continuity risk that carries for a public service.

The goal was to reach a supported version of SharePoint while keeping the sites and the content the institution works with. It was not a direct migration: the main content databases came from SharePoint 2007 and were still in compatibility mode, and there were custom solutions that had to move as well.

What we did

Working together with IFX, Costa Consulting Group migrated the platform from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint 2019. We designed a high-availability farm of 10 servers: 6 SharePoint, 2 SQL Server and 2 Office Online Server.

The migration was done at the database level: about 100 TB of content databases, which passed through SharePoint 2016 before reaching 2019. At that stage an incompatible collation surfaced, inherited from the original 2007 databases, and had to be corrected before going further. That is how 8 site collections moved across along with their custom solutions, in 3 months from the first tests to go-live. Once on the new version, CNA kept us on for SharePoint support.

The result

  • CNA runs on a SharePoint version that is still supported.
  • Its 8 site collections, about 100 TB of content databases and its custom solutions moved to the new platform in 3 months.
  • The relationship continues: we provide SharePoint support to keep the platform stable and handle whatever the team needs.

Still on an old SharePoint version?

SharePoint 2010, 2013 and 2016 are all out of support, and 2019 joined them on July 14, 2026. The calendar of what expired and when is in the SharePoint end-of-life calendar, and the options for each path are in SharePoint Server 2016 and 2019 are out of support. We help you decide between SharePoint Server and SharePoint Online and run the move in stages, so your team keeps working. See our SharePoint and Microsoft 365 service.
